IAPDE President attends ceremony for the unveiling of F.M. Dostoevsky bust at MGIMO
On January 16, 2025, a ceremony was held at MGIMO to unveil a bust of the outstanding Russian writer and thinker Fyodor Dostoevsky. The bust, created by Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts A.V. Tyrtyshnikov, was presented to the University as a gift by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, MGIMO alumna E.V. Mitrofanova and her family.
The ceremony was attended by MGIMO Rector, Academician A.V. Torkunov; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Bulgaria, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the KIRA Foundation E.V. Mitrofanova; Head of the Press Service of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Head of the Department of Media Communications at MGIMO V.R. Legoida; Founder of the KIRA Foundation V.L. Tyrtyshnikov; President of the Foundation M.Yu.Nazarov; President of the International Association of Public Diplomacy Experts A.M. Khachatryan; Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts I.A. Shpynov; and Head of the "Mobile Application VVERH PRO" Project D.V. Sharova. The ceremony was hosted by Dean of the Faculty of International Journalism Ya.L. Skvortsov—the bust of F.M. Dostoevsky is installed precisely near the Dean's Office of the Faculty.
A welcoming address was delivered by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Bulgaria, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the KIRA Foundation E.V. Mitrofanova. Eleonora Valentinovna emphasized the significance of unveiling the bust of the renowned Russian philosopher and publicist within the walls of her alma mater.
MGIMO Rector, Academician A.V. Torkunov, noted that current events prompt us to recall that F.M. Dostoevsky was a great patriot of Russia. According to A.V. Torkunov, Fyodor Dostoevsky always advocated for Russia to maintain the kindest and most reliable relations with the external world, yet he consistently pointed out the risks and dangers that lie in wait for Russia on its civilizational path.
In conclusion, MGIMO Rector, Academician A.V.Torkunov, and the honored guests wished the students success and confidence in their upcoming examination session and urged them to genuinely discover the remarkable life and works of the outstanding Russian thinker Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky.
