Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev, Outstanding Scientist, the Great Patriotic War veteran, Passes Away
Nikolai Ivanovich was for many years affiliated with MGIMO where he became famous as a popularizer of the science of the history of international relations. He was the first MGIMO graduate to become Rector. Under his leadership, the Institute not only received a new main building, but also gained international fame. Nikolai Ivanovich left behind a rich creative and scientific legacy and mentored numerous outstanding specialists, many of whom today hold key positions in Russia and abroad. He never lost touch with the University and remained actively involved in the life of his alma mater.
The farewell ceremony for Nikolai Ivanovich was held on April 29 in the main hall of Troyekurovskoye Cemetery.
The International Association of Public Diplomacy Experts and its President, Arthur Khachatryan, extended sincere condolences to the family, colleagues, and students of Nikolai Ivanovich.
At the memorial service for Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev, the current rector of MGIMO, Professor Anatoly Torkunov, delivered a speech. He paid tribute to Nikolai Ivanovich’s significant contributions to the development of the Institute, highlighting his role in promoting MGIMO on the international stage. Professor Anatoly Torkunov particularly emphasized Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev's talent for training new generations of diplomats who are now recognized experts worldwide.
