IAPDE Vice President V.F. Zaemsky at Roundtable Discussion on United Nations Security Council Reform “Taking Stock and Looking Ahead” in New York
In his speech the IAPDE representative noted that, as the topic has been under discussion for more than two decades, the search for a unified solution is relevant and needed. Considering the abovementioned, as well as his own experience at the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, V.F. Zaemsky suggested using as a "common denominator" the fact that all member states support the idea of increasing the number of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, and complementing it with the well-known Russian proposal to repeal the provision of the UN Charter that prohibits their immediate re-election.
The remarks of the Russian representative were positively received by the participants in the event, including the Permanent Representative of Italy, who was the initiator of the roundtable.
